Case Study: Hunter Water

Chemical dosing for highly effective wastewater odour control

About Hunter Water

The governmental corporation, Hunter Water, is the major supplier of drinking (potable) water and wastewater management services in the Hunter regions of New South Wales.

The problem

The Dora Creek wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) catchment area consists of many collection points and pump stations. A relatively high wastewater retention time in the network caused the production of extreme levels of H₂S.

This hazardous gas not only resulted in odour complaints but also in significant corrosion of wastewater infrastructure.

Wastewater odour control is a common issue for treatment facilities and one that OdourPro has extensive experience in addressing.

What OdourPro did

For this wastewater odour control project, we installed and managed a dosing unit on the Windemere Park common rising main. This process was completely taken care of by our expert team, without any action needed from our client.

We also supplied the necessary chemical deliveries and monitored the functioning of the unit.

These actions proved successful in achieving a consistent 95% reduction in H₂S production and associated odours.

Project benefits

  • Eliminate complaints
  • Reduce hazardous odours
  • Lessen infrastructure corrosion
  • Lower maintenance time and costs
